Without proper dental care, by age two most dogs and cats are likely to begin showing signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease, induced by the accumulation of bacteria at and below the gum line. If left untreated, it will lead to oral discomfort, and ultimately lead to the destruction of the bone that supports the teeth (tooth loss).  This bacteria can also affect vital organs such as the heart and kidneys and in the case of a dog with diabetes, it will exacerbate the condition. Preventing oral disease should start at an early age with frequent teeth brushing and regular dental cleanings. Just like in humans! 

 Pet dental cleanings are a preventive care procedure designed to improve oral hygiene and the overall health of your pet. At Sparkling K9's, we focus on providing this very service without the use of general anesthesia. This non-anesthetic approach is beneficial to pets with health complications that make them ineligible for general anesthesia, as well as for those who tend to have adverse reactions to the anesthetics. Often, we treat patients whose owners feel uncomfortable with the idea of putting their pets under general anesthesia.
